We believe social change organizations have a key role to play in the creation of a more conscious planet in both the promotion of well functioning and empathetic people, change on the individual level, and in the creation and support of new systems, businesses, institutions, and methods that support a more equitable and just world - change on the system level.
"The more a man knows about himself in relation to every kind of experience, the greater his chance of suddenly, one fine morning, realizing who in fact he is..."
- Aldous Huxley, The Island
The foundation partners with Grantees that unlock the potential of those they serve. We believe that people should be treated as assets to be developed, rather than static recipients of service. Grantees implicitly or explicitly focus on promoting awareness and high functionality - people being able to engage in conscious choices and realize their own highest self.
"Social entrepreneurs are not content just to give a fish or teach how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry."
- Bill Drayton, Founder and CEO of Ashoka
The foundation also aims to support organizations working on the level of system change. This effort comes from the recognition that, by in large, the systems and institutions of society do not reflect a just, equitable, or sustainable world and do not adequately promote conditions that support personal development. Grantees working on this level implicitly or explicitly work to promote better functioning and consciously designed systems.
"No great improvements in the lot of mankind are possible, until a great change takes place in the fundamental constitution of their modes of thought."
- John Stuart Mill
Overall the foundation aims to support mindset change in society from the ego-based unconscious mindset to a more enlightened and empathetic collective mindset. Grantees working directly on this level explicitly incorporate 'consciousness-raising' activities, or implicitly raise consciousness through a well designed program or organization.
